Motorcycle Adventure So Cal April 13-22, 2018
IMPORTANT UPDATE - PLEASE READ
April 5 2018. There is a broken water main line several miles above us. There is water coming to the property, but not to the school. The school is where the flush toilets, shower and community kitchen is. We have no projected date for when we might have water again. And today is the cut-off day on the tee shirt order. So we have to make this very difficult decision today.
We are (or already have) refunded all of the registration fees, and the tee shirt orders. With your refund is a note very similar to this one. We cancelled the tee shirt order, and we cut loose our ride leaders for Monday (Solvang Motorcycle Museum) Tuesday (Arrowhead) and Thursday (Tehachapi). This will not affect Darren's ride on Wednesday. We're just going to do it the way we usually do events here. There will be breakfast foods and there will be a donation basket. We won't twist your arm to partake in either one.
If you had made plans to camp and now you're bummed out, you can still come camp. The toilets can be flushed using the bucket method, and we don't have any other events going on at the school from April 13 to the 20th. The forest service camp sites also have no water but are still open. You'll be on your own for food and you won't get a tee shirt, but it's still beautiful, the weather is pretty much perfect and there's no shortage of self-guided rides/hikes/walks to be had.
As for the weekend rides, we're going to cut Armen loose (he will probably still be out in the dirt somewhere, we just won't know where until he posts pictures on Monday), and we are all going to gang up on Pete and Alex of West Coast GP Moto and tag along with them to Borrego Springs. If you'd like to come along on that ride, we need to know, because I think Pete wants to leave Friday night, April 20, and a couple of us are coming in cages, so we're going to be taking up valuable parking spots.
Yes, this news sucks...but the thinking is, better to deal with it this way than have unhappy campers.
We're leaving the packing list and some basic venue information below in the event you aren't afraid of hand-flushing a toilet.

This (was, before the water issue) a series of camping trips and rides for motorcyclists. We are using Chilao School located in the Angeles National Forest as our base camp, and camping location during the week.
Although we are int he process of issuing refunds, the school itself is still available if you choose to come up. You can use the school as a base camp to do your own adventures. Or you can hang out and enjoy the mountains, the birds, the occasional herd of deer, the gigantic rabbits. You can bring a trailer full of motorcycles. You can bring an RV. Or a camper van. Or a tent.
Chilao School is a privately owned and operated facility located in a campground. Quiet hour is 10 PM. Excessive alcohol consumption is not welcome. The school has flush toilets and a shower, a kitchen area, a wood burning stove if its cold and a cooler if it gets warm. It could do both. Or neither. The weather might just be perfect.
We are located at an elevation of 5,265 feet. Our 2018 winter season is just arriving now in March, but it has been neither very cold or very wet. The much needed rain and occasional light snow is pretty desperately needed. And it will make all the destinations we visit more lovely.
Wednesday April 18 we get a chance to join Darren Martinelli for one of his favorite rides, and I think we’ll be getting a view of the ocean in the process. Join us for breakfast at the school around 8 AM. All bikes are welcome on this ride.
West Coast GP Moto’s Borrego Springs April 21-22 camp/ride. For this ride all bikes are welcome; Pete and Alex are working on a way to have both dirt and street fun on the way there. Because this ride will also take us into high altitudes before depositing us in the desert, the exact routes will be a matter of what the road conditions and weather dictate. One way or another, we are going to camp at Borrego Springs and once again, We will be bringing stoves and some food. New folks coming in for this ride - we will either meet at Newcomb’s or there will be signs taking you directly to the school. Where we are meeting will be posted on Facebook (here) and on the web page.
